Fine Arts - Band

The Concert Band consists of members of the Liberty High School Band program that did not make the Symphonic Band.This organization has an outstanding reputation for excellence and has been credited by many adjudicators with a performance level equal to many school's 1st bands. The Concert band has consistently received Superior ratings at the MSHSAA State Music Festival. The Concert band performs a variety of music including overtures, traditional marches, movie soundtrack and Broadway selections as well as music fresh out on the market. Many members of the concert band are also involved in solos and ensembles for District and State Music festivals.

A jazz band (jazz ensemble or jazz combo) is a musical ensemble that plays jazz music usually without a conductor. Jazz bands usually consist of a rhythm section and a horn section. During the jazz and swing eras in the mid-twentieth century, the most successful jazz orchestras also employed strings and harp in expanded arrangements, but their presence on the bandstand was more for visual impact and not as a key component of the ensemble, although the unique timbres of the strings and harp combined with the band as a whole provided an extra layer of ear-pleasing sonorities.

Marching band is a large group class in which students display marching technique and knowledge of memorizing pieces of music to play on the football field during half time shows. Marching Band competes at musical festivals each year, all of which are prestigious competitions in which judges give the band a scoring on technique, sound quality and musicianship.

The Symphonic Band consists of the finest musicians at Liberty High School. Students audition for this elite organization the last week of marching band season for membership. All members of this band are involved in the Blue Jay Pride Marching Band. The Symphonic Band performs a variety of music including symphonies, orchestral transcriptions, traditional marches, movie soundtrack and Broadway selections as well as contemporary music new to the scene.

Students who are selected to be in this group are very dedicated and have reached a high level of musical achievement through individual work. They are expected to be of the highest level of character. Many of the members of this ensemble will become members of the Kansas City All-District Band. Most members of the Symphonic band are involved in solo/ensemble work during District and State Music festival in the Spring. The Symphonic Band has been fortunate to recieve many awards and honors as well as performance opportunities at local, state, regional and national festivals  and clinics.
